Ordering a pagne outfit from the tailor
In Benin, having a boubou or a dress sewn from wax-print pagne fabric is a classic. The tailor (àvɔ̀lɔ́nnɔ) often speaks Fon. Here is a typical dialogue for placing an order.
Making your request
Taking measurements
Negotiating and setting a date
Tip
Always pay a deposit (50%) when ordering. The balance is paid on delivery after the fitting. Expect afɔkànwé atɔ́ɔ́n (5000 F) for a simple shirt, more for a full boubou.
