What is a Fon video lesson like?

Before paying for a course, you’d like to know what ten minutes of a lesson really look like. Here’s how it goes, step by step, without the marketing.

Step 1

A short video, two voices

A lesson lasts between six and ten minutes. A French voice guides and explains; a native speaker from Cotonou says every Fon word. The two never mix: whatever is in Fon is always said by the native voice.

Why it matters

An explanation in French spoken by someone who reads Fon poorly passes on a wrong pronunciation to you. Separating the two voices is what guarantees you never hear approximate Fon.

Step 2

Each sentence is said twice, with a pause

Once to hear it, once to repeat it — with a gap of two to three seconds in between. It isn’t an editing detail: it’s what turns a video into a practice session.

Step 3

Every form displayed, with its meaning

Below the video, all the forms in the lesson appear with their translation. A rule kept on every screen: never a Fon form without its French meaning. You can go back to it as many times as you like.

Step 4

The lesson ends with something you can say

This is how the course is built: each lesson ends with a usable skill, not a list. From lesson 1, you greet someone in the morning and understand their reply.

The first lesson is free

The best way to judge a format is still to watch it. Signing up for the Parlons Fongbe Academy is free and gives access to the full first lesson — enough to check everything above before deciding. The program details are on the Fon video course.

Watch, listen again, speak

Six to ten minutes, two voices, pauses to repeat, and a skill at the end. That’s the whole format.

Tools help you out. A method gets you talking.

Dictionaries, keyboards, translators: useful, but they don’t teach you to speak. 79 video lessons with a native speaker, in order, with tones taken seriously — that’s what the Academy does.
